Google enlists SEO's to weed out the AI slop
Hi I’m Tony. My background is from Intrepid Travel where I was inducted into the company Hall of Fame for outsized contribution to the company. Since late 2022, I’ve been going deep on AI + Travel. I share some of what I find here each week and interview people who are building cool AI things for the industry on a podcast.
I also partner with CEO’s, Founders and their boards on making sense of the opportunities of AI in their companies.
We are using AI to build a map of every travel collab opportunity in the world
We’ve been busy the last couple of weeks training an AI to find and load every genuine content creator or influencer collaboration request there is in the world.
These are then plotted on to a map so our thousands strong creator community can find the most suitable brands for their audiences along the paths they already intend travelling. This in turn saves travel brands from having to pay for travel costs - a major expense in this area.
Next we will allow any travel brand that doesn’t have a formal offer out to the creator world the opportunity to load their own campaign directly onto Videreo and have it land on the Collabs Map too. This will be absolutely free (and AI will assist so it will only take 30 seconds).
Every travel business, no matter how small (or big), will have the opportunity to turn on a creator system that gets them authentic content directly posted to their own brand social media (Instagram) plus publicized to the creator’s audience - all for the cost of a seat or bed night.
Most businesses could expect to have 3 high quality posts of people recommending their business, talking about how the business USP’s made them feel and why this is the only place you should consider for whatever your business offers, every week.
Videreo is the place where creator marketing is being made as simple as can be.

AI isn’t a tool problem, it’s a leadership problem
This was the takeaway from Andrew Leary after attending the Destinations International CEO Summit.
“AI isn't a tool problem. It's a leadership problem. Todd Brook from Unchained framed it well: the most important question about AI isn't what it can do — it's what it requires of leaders. Where do you automate? Where do you protect the human element? How do you guide teams through change without losing their trust? Most of us left agreeing we'd been having the wrong version of this conversation.”
What conversation are you having internally?
Google just gave every SEO the opportunity to call out AI slop - and have it deleted
ClckRaven this week reported on a Google announcement on how “SEOs can submit reports via the standard spam form. If Google issues a manual action, the report text is sent verbatim to the site owner (anonymously) to provide context for the removal.”
In Australia we have this weird thing about “dobbing” on people doing the wrong thing but I think if you truly believe you are losing to someone playing the system rather than playing the game - you’ll send in the report.
If you’ve built an AI machine that is spitting out slop to intercept traffic - I guess this is your warning. You might escape Google for a while - but the reckoning might come a lot sooner if your competitors are watching.
Whilst article notes “This is a gift for legitimate SEOs and brands tired of losing organic traffic to low-quality, "black-hat" competitors” it also warns “Use this tool judiciously. While it's a powerful way to clear out genuine spam, ensure your own site’s technical SEO is airtight.”
Something about stones and glass houses…
AI is coming for the agencies
Jeremy Drake from Drake agency here in Australia, this week posted a video about his realisation that AI is coming for his agency.
I know Jeremy and he has been deep into AI for a while now, so I think his video was more an expression of relief that he had got started on the AI road when he did, rather than a “whoa is me” type reaction.
Jeremy lists off a bunch of ways that different members of his team are driving efficiencies and results for their clients.
If you think someone (or everyone) you know or work with could grow from being more informed on the topic of ai + travel (or could use the training above) then please forward this email to them and they can click the button below:
Marketplace Spotlight: Propellic
Brennen Bliss from Propellic this week shared that whilst noodling around in AI mode he was shocked to see his entire website appear in the right-hand side pane of the UI.
“If you click on a link, you don't go to a new tab. Your content shows up right next to your live chat, then you can ask questions about the site you've landed on.
Helpful? Yes...
Takes away more users from your website and content? Also yes.”
The good news is that at least you showed up in the citation!
If you have a B2B business underpinned by AI and looking for people to notice you, you can sign up to the marketplace for peanuts (top right corner, 5 mins, bring your logo).
I’ve priced for bootstrapped startups but also accepting larger companies too.

Five things learned…..
You can read the post to get the full run down but the one that jumped out to me was No.4:
“Give AI control over your product front-end. I never thought I'd say that, having worked in Product as long as I have. However, I've watched AI build production-ready surfaces that supercharge the test - learn - improve cycle. In production. Moving KPIs quickly up and to the right.”
Scott is product guy. Let that sink in.
He also believes “AI is better than you are at identifying patterns, pain points, opportunities. It's better than you at merchandizing, behavioral models and data analytics.”
Ego is one of the biggest barriers to AI adoption.
Might be time to go read “The Tao of Pooh” again.
